It is commonsense to look in hindsight favorably at the value of
something that has been tried three times, 1964, 1982, 2002 and
resulted in lower, simpler income taxes but increased revenue.
Moreover, even the cut in capital gains taxes resulted in more revenue
from that source. Objectivists would say: the right thing is the
moral thing, and look at how "practical" the moral option turns out.

There is nothing in the rhetoric of either Obama or Mrs. Clinton that
indicates that they will wait until after 2010 to find the tax base to
support (they think) their spending plans.

You also did not mention that every year Bush and most Republicans
have pushed to make the cuts permanent.
