Not a problem. And I don't think that the simple labels I offered
capture either of our views. But it helps to focus attention on a
number of things that I wanted to be clear about, and elegantly
expresses the sorts of things we might agree or differ on. I should
probably do a "world view summary" essay sometime; I think that the
old timers here "get" me, which is why I think that Fred and Ken
haven't tried to rip my lungs out despite my highly qualified
expression of support for Obama--they know where I'm basically coming
from. The crucial thing is that I smile on the spread of certain
attitudes and institutions, but that I think that the projection of US
military power is at best an ambiguous way of doing that, and is often
self-defeating.

The truth is that my view used to be utterly mainstream in the
Republican Party until rather recently.
