In profit or loss?
Pakistan Railways has increased the fares by 10%. This is due to the oil prices
increase and the fact that "Railways is running in a loss".
But only two months back, Shaikh Rashid Ahmed had "left the Railways running in
profit with 23 new trains". On the other hand, Indian railways has slashed fares
only last week allowing senior citizens a 50% rebate.
Can anyone tell me how it is that increasing oil price is not affecting Indian
Railway's yellow red bogies but affecting our green bogies? I think the deficit
is not due to oil price but due to extraordinary new style lootings being seen
for some years. The present increase in railway fares, after increase in petrol
prices twice in a fortnight, has hit the passenger hard. -JAVED, Karachi, via
